What T.I.P.S. Offers
What good is having a wealth of knowledge and experience if we can’t get people to listen to us, consider our point of view or act as we would like?
How often do we say:
"He never listens and seldom does what I ask!"
"I really needed to speak up at the meeting but stayed quiet as usual"
"Please don't ask me to give that presentation".
The following is an overview of the training that can be provided although specific courses will be tailored to suit the requirements and training needs of the individual(s) concerned and the organisation.
- Developing Effective Communication and Interpersonal skills
- Improving Self Confidence
- Delivering Dynamic Presentations
- Developing High Performance Teams

Other areas of concern can be addressed on request
Developing Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills
What good is it having a wealth of knowledge and experience if you have problems communicating it effectively to others? Why is it so difficult? Why does it seem that no one understands you? Do you realise that how you communicate is even more important in getting your message across, as intended, than what you say? Course content would include topics such as:
- How to overcome the various barriers to getting your message across
- Realising the importance of body language
- Understanding why people behave in the way they do
- Developing more "persuasive" techniques in changing peoples' opinions or behaviours
Improving Self Confidence
Being confident is not about being perfect, it is about knowing what you can realistically achieve, without being overwhelmed, and developing the techniques to go for it positively. This is done by discovering more about yourself, learning the difference between certain types of behaviours and developing the ability to control feelings. Course content would include topics such as:
- Developing self confidence
- Promoting assertive behaviours
- Emotional effectiveness and banishing negativity
- Developing strategies to deal with criticism
Delivering Dynamic Presentations
Although it is assumed we can all "get on with it", presenting is not easy. It is a skill that needs to be developed, as the content is meaningless without an effective delivery. It demands interaction with an audience who should react, think, discuss, want to find out more and most importantly take a specific course of action. This takes practice, self belief and courage! Course content would include topics such as:
- Understanding the audience
- Planning and scripting issues
- Delivery techniques and coping mechanisms
- Evaluation criteria
Developing High Performance Teams
Teams are now an integral part of organisational life. It is all about sharing knowledge, experiences, and even dreams. How do you as a Team Leader promote an atmosphere for this development to take place? How can you develop this group of individuals you have under your responsibility into a focussed, productive and cohesive team? Course content would include topics such as:
- Team dynamics
- Individual aspirations and frustrations
- Developing a collaborative style
- Dealing with conflicts within the team
Appraisal Interview Skills
An appraisal interview involves judgement and reporting which can be unreliable and subjective. It should be a review and discussion of present and future job performance by encouraging two-way communication and allowing for the interchange of specific information on objectives and standards. This should then result in a jointly agreed course of action based on both realistic goals and how best to monitor progress. Course content would include topics such as:
- Objectives and benefits of performance appraisal
- Preparing for the interview
- Strategies and questioning techniques
- Using feedback effectively
Facilitation and Meeting Skills
How often do we come out of a meeting thinking, "That was a waste of time (and indeed money)!" We seem to spend the majority of the time talking about what we should be doing rather than actually doing it. Meetings matter. They are needed to ensure correct decisions are made, to ensure plans are implemented, to promote an open and positive channel of communication and to allow for the development of individuals. Meetings can only be productive if well run, so what skills are needed? Course content would include topics such as:
- Preparation considerations including Agendas
- Establishing positive relationships
- Facilitation and chairing skills
- Troubleshooting
Time Management and Delegation
More to do and not enough time to do it all? The idea of a work/life balance has gone out of the window? Time management is a skill that everyone needs and involves learning how to become more focussed by setting realistic and practical goals. Delegation, the letting go of certain tasks, and not the ones you don't like, should be a positive learning process for all those concerned. It can develop the necessary competencies for business success, and, if managed positively, it is an essential ingredient of an effective time management system as well as a valuable developmental tool. Course content would include topics such as:
- Setting goals and objectives
- Self-motivation and self-discipline
- Controlling time-wasting activities
- Delegating effectively
- Prioritising and monitoring
- Action planning
Creating Positive Client Relationships
Want to ensure that you make a good professional first impression by creating the right atmosphere for promoting business relationships? Want to maintain that dynamic impact? The ability to develop an on-going relationship is vital when dealing with day-to-day issues, motivating others and promoting a positive and professional image. This can be at team briefings, client presentations or more informally, when speaking to a colleague. Course content would include topics such as:
- First impressions and influences on interpersonal perception
- Key personality traits to develop
- Initiating dialogue and establishing rapport
- Barriers to effective self presentation
- Promoting credibility and trust
Telephone Skills
Do you realise that to use the telephone requires organisation, planning and sound communication skills? Do you know what your objectives are in making the call? Can you establish rapport? Can you convince the listener that you have their interests at heart and that you can positively and effectively deal with their request? Only by developing techniques to create a strong, positive and lasting impression on the telephone, will your reputation be enhanced and client expectations exceeded. Course content would include topics such as:
- Objectives of a "telephone call"
- Benefits and constraints
- Planning strategy
- Listening skills
- Vocal influence
